I am going to write a long answer for this. Let’s examine some analogy first:
Say you are farmers of mangos. Say there are those willing to pay a lot for those mangos.
You have several options
1. You can give the mangos away for free.
2. You can let your mangos rots.
3. You can sell your mangos to “small buyers” with great discount for those least able to pay for it.
4. You can max out your profit by selling it at market price?

The issue is not really the sanctioning per se… The issue is government can effectively tell women don’t choose Bob, choose Charlie instead. In US, that’s what government do if Charlie is single. In muslim countries that’s what government would do if Charlie is muslim.
Imagine if government has power to tell customers don’t buy iPhone, buy Samsung instead? Apple and Samsung won’t bother doing R&D to build better phones. They just bribe government official. The same way men don’t bother offering best offers for women. They just pay religious leaders, and feminazis to rule in their favor. Many hot babes are then underpaid.
The issue is not christianity. The issue is the very human nature that’s hidden. In other word, in the absent of christianity, such as in china, in muslim world, and among liberal feminazis, we too will see opposition to prostitution or any efficient system.
The real issue is human nature. We can think of marriage as prostitution where everyone is the pimp. Everyone wants to be pimp and they do not want to compete with more efficient pimps. That’s all.
