Don’t look at the context when the stuff is written. Look at the context of political interests now when the religion is actually practiced. That fits the dot most.
Should we drink alcohol? In the context of christian mongols that love beer, they would gladly show that Jesus’ first miracle is producing alcohol and enjoy the fact that drinking alcohol is part of a holy sacrament.
Obviously the puritan in US have very different view.
I love free market.
However, I understand that we need compromise.
So when there are tons of deviation from free market, I tend to judge which one is the most harmful. Tolerate the harmless one in exchange of eliminating the truly harmful one.
How do I judge?
Market distortion.
Every government intervention is a form of market distortion. Minimum wage, maximum wage, etc. All are market distortion.
However, there is one market distortion that is so big it affects our very existence.
Let’s put it this way. You think I want government to favor certain group of people like Nazi. To the opposite, I want elimination of all such laws. It’s everyone else that’s like Nazi. I am the opposite.
Look at your cell phone. There is no law that require you to buy the best cell phone. You, out of your selfish interest, want to get the best cell phone for the price you want.
Cellphone producers that get more sales, make more profit, and will produce more similar cell phone.
