Free Market Forever

Think Unsexy Thought Think Unsexy Thought

Educational costs have drop down due to cheap and free e-books, free lectures, and free stack exchanges forum. Formal educational cost keep going up due to government interference in formal educational sector.

Doctors in some countries are forced to work in governments’ hospital with below market price salary. Should they refuse, they will lost their license to operate privately. Why is this not a slavery and exploitation of worker?

A CEO does not usually do janitorial tasks unless she is grossly incompetent, untalented, or face trade restrictions against commercialized CEOing.

We can measure freedom by how much we don’t give shit about the interest of those who are not our target market. Whether it’s actually ideal or practical is a different story.

Simplified Homo Economicus Alternatives

I shorten this to remove politically incorrect part. The complete version is in http://freemarketforever.com/2012/03/22/alternative-to-homo-economicus-2/

Homo Economicus has a few problems.

1. It’s too broad. All it says is you have a (set of) utility function(s) that’s equivalent under any linear affine transformation with positive slope. It doesn’t say what’s humans’ typical utility function is. It’s definition of selfish is intuitively misleading. Most utility function that people come up with is simply false.
2. It works in as if basis.Humans are not truly rational. They just behave as if they do. Believing that humans are homo economic us is then like believing that the sun revolves around the earth.
3. It’s not true. Most humans have inconsistent goal or simply don’t have any consistent utility function.

Some alternatives/more narrow models that’s not obvious from mere definition of homo economicus are:

1. Humans are power hungry psychopaths that want to maximize power so they can use it to manipulate others. This explains why we have so many laws against consensual acts. That explains why totally save ganja is illegal, for example, so that politicians can control what you consume. Voters also want to run your life so they support it. In the main article I jokingly called that homo psychopathus.

2. Selfish genes theory. Humans, like all other species want to maximize their reproductive success. Men and women are significantly different that they have totally different strategies to mate. This aspects are absent from most economy classes and not talked about.

3. Humans are hypocrites. Namely that they hide their utility function and the fact that they’re psychopaths so they can be more accepted by societies. People do not openly prohibit ganja and claim they want power. They bullshit first claiming that it’s dangerous. This is the main reason why most humans don’t look like psychopaths even though they behave like ones.

4. Rather than maximizing their self interests, humans actively want suffering for others. This explain all the genocides and voters tendency to ruin economy by demanding governments’ intervention.

While all those may still be part of homo economicus with creative creation of utility functions there are models that may be outside of it.

Humans and all other species, simply repeat what works and avoid what doesn’t. Here, they don’t necessarily have any utility function. I think this is the closest to actual decision making humans do. It’s simple enough and it’s actually more accurate and predictive.

More on that is in evolutionary psychology. It’s as if, as Richard Dawkins said, the genes and the memes, are the one having utility functions, rather than individuals.

Freedom and Compromise

I think you misunderstood my ideas a lot. As usual there are 2 parts. There is the ideal part and there is a damage reduction compromise. For the former I am all in. For the latter, just come up with better idea than mine then, anything that works.

I do not advocate government intervention at all in sex and reproduction.  Every sex and reproductive acts between consenting adult should be legal whether it’s commercialized or not. Marriage should not get any favorable treatment compared to prostitution and it’s not up to government to decide which one is which.

That’s my main idea. That’s the only think I want to promote. What is so not libertarian about that? The rest are just explanation why most problems we have now will go away by it self if that’s implemented.

The following are just secondary consideration why I think things will work way better than what most libertarian think. I think it’s true but it’s doesn’t have to be.

I think better genes will proliferate under free market by itself if trade restriction on sex and reproduction is gone. Women prefer the rich and men prefer the pretty. Porn will reduce the number of ugly women that  get laid. The pretty can get the rich. So, more kids will have rich smart dad. No need for government intervention. Let the market decide who they want to mate and breed with and under what terms.

What is so unlibertarian about it? No government. Let people make their own private deals. Let free market decide who stays in the gene pool and who doesn’t.

I do not even ask for government interference on area where governments do have legitimate cause. I think free market will take care of it better than government’ regulation

1a. Governments do have a case to prohibit breeding by those who can’t fully afford kids. However, even that is not necessary. I do not advocate even that. Women already have strong incentive to pick men that’s most able to fully afford kids even without governments’ requirement. What do you think about this?
1b. I think government has a case to say that child support should be more than a certain amount. That amount should not depend on parent’s wealth at all. Even that it’s not necessary. Women have strong incentive to pick males that can commit higher child support automatically under free market. Contemporary child support laws are just excuse to rob rich males. Fuck that.

2. We can win afganistan war with less military. Just allow hot afghanistan babe consensual chances to immigrate to richer countries and be consensual sex workers. Taliban men will go extinct by themselves. No force involved. NO VICTIM at all.

See simple ideas. Which one is against libertarianism anyway?

Now the 3rd is probably the real difference. It’s more of damage mitigation and I am not sure I am correct. It’s not my main idea.

3. I want to decouple redistribution of wealth with number of kids.
Ideally there is no redistribution of wealth. But say government give wealth to coca cola drinker. Of course it’s normal to expect that pepsi drinkers to get the same too.

Contemporary redistribution of wealth is given to those with kids. If you have kids governments pay for your kids’ education. Those who don’t have kids got nothing.

I think balancing that will reduce perverse incentive to breed. If you have kids, well governments pay for public school. It’s natural to expect that government spend the same amount of money for those with no kids, say by paying cash.

I would say government shouldn’t help the poor and the sick. Ideally there is 0 money for them. But if government pay for the poor and sick, government should also give cash to the rich and healthy. Simple right? Less incentive to be poor and sick.

It’s Milton Friedman’s idea actually.

First They Came

First they came for jews. But I didn’t speak because I am not jewish.

Then they came for drug dealers, but I didn’t speak because I prefer video games.

Then they came for highly paid workers, but I didn’t speak because I can’t afford them.

Then they came for sugar babies, but I didn’t speak because I can always do it silently anyway once I am rich enough as a sugar daddy.

Then they came for doubters, but I didn’t speak, because I do not like to offend people.

Then they came for sexy immigrants, but I didn’t speak, because I am no longer an immigrant.

Then they came for old people, but I didn’t speak because I am not old yet.

Then politicians are corrupt, economy collapses, jobs are moving away, jails are full, governments get bigger and bigger, and we laugh at them.

What People Think the Laws Prohibit, What the Laws Actually Said, and How it is Actually Enforced

When government prohibit consensual acts, quite often there is a huge gap between what most people think is being prohibited, what the law actually said, and how it is actually implemented.

Governments try to maintain lies that it try to prohibit something, and then prohibit totally different unrelated things.

If you have a girl friend. Say you give her a gift. Does that make her  prostitute? This is not a philosophical question. It’s a legal question actually. Most people would think not. However, if you read the law, she might. Both of you can get arrested.

What matter is what the judge and jury think. Most of the time, they are quite divided due to vagueness of the law and broadness of definition.

The root of the problem is allowing government to declare consensual crime illegal. What’s natural after that is that government will simply broaden the criminalization far beyond what most people think.

1. It’s far more broad than what most people think.

Anti prostitution is marketed to protect women from being forced by evil pimp to promiscuously have sex with really really ugly men with mental retardation problem and highly unusual violent fetish.

In fact, most people think that’s what prostitution is.

There is nothing in the law against prostitution that specify that prostitutes must be promiscuous, forced, or sleep with undesirable males. Quite the opposite, prostitution is often monogamous, consensual, with really really hot participants with plenty of other legal choices that simply choose better. There is nothing in anti prostitution laws that indicate that the johns must be unattractive.

Notice that marrying really really undesirable man is legal.

After all, marriage means government is the pimp. Government is simply the worst pimp. It’s so bad it has to keep so many things illegal just to stay competitive.

The law says prostitution is “a lewd act for money or other consideration,”  http://www.coyotela.org/getarrestedinfo.html.

What makes an act a prostitution is not the undesirability of the mate or the forced nature of the act or even the promiscuity of the women. It’s the incentive, which doesn’t even have to be financial.

By that definition of prostitution, virtually all women can be convicted. I give a girl a massage, that’s consideration. I give a girl attention, that’s consideration. I make a girl happy that’s consideration. In fact, I wonder where I can get the list of all the consideration that’s legal or illegal. Who knows what the lists are.

I can only wonder why marriage doesn’t count as consideration. Government pretty much control what kind of consideration is legal or not legal based on anything they wish. Now it’s your life. Why should their wish matter?

Notice the law need to be broad. If the law only prohibit accepting cash, the girl will take credit. If the law only prohibit accepting money, the girl will exchange that for food, lodging.

Now take a look at drug laws again. Most of us think that it’s there to get rid of dangerous addictive drug.

That’s not what the law said. There is nothing in the law saying that the drug must be dangerous or significantly addictive. And it’s not how it works in practice either. I was very surprised when I found this out.

(1) Schedule I.—

(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.

(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.

(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.” [23]

See? Watch the word “accepted safety”. That looks like it has something to do with dangerous. It’s so vague. Anyone that took any English language class will point out that it’s a passive sentence. Accepted by who? Passive sentences are inherently unclear. Many doctors know many ways to use marijuana safely. As long as you don’t drive, it’s save. No body died out of marijuana overdoses yet.

It has little to do with the drug being dangerous. It has a lot to do with preventing you from using the drug you want so you ended up using other drugs they want you to use instead.

It’s easy for government to argue that a drug has no legitimate accepted medical use. Government simply choose not to accept. Yes baby. Marijuana is NOT dangerous. Just look at this graph:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marijuana

Now take a look at women trafficking. Most of us think of women trafficking as those women in chain sent against their will kicking and screaming. The truth is the opposite. Those women quite often have a nice job or marriage offers in their country. Quite often they simply want to go to richer countries so they can meet even richer males. It’s like you having $10k per month and want $1 million per month instead. Such women compete with ugly women in rich countries and that’s why it’s prohibited.

Anti women trafficking laws actually have clauses saying that they include consenting women as “trafficked” if it’s done for sex.

Imagine if you are a jew during holocaust. Wouldn’t you want to get out anywhere? What about countries that accept you says, well, we can’t just let you in and feed you for free. Ah you got capital, you got to invest here. Oh you’re smart, see you got to work here. What would the jew did? Hope in. Unfortunately, during holocaust, very few countries wanted to accept jews. And that’s how Hitler can easily slaughter millions of them. Then every body blamed Hitler even though all of them sort of did it too. You see why jews don’t trust non jews? We messed up.

Quite often women are indeed forced to be trafficked, but not by the traffickers. Women are oppressed by the Taliban in some country. Imagine if you’re that women. Wouldn’t you want to get out anywhere? What about countries that accept you says, well, we can’t just let you in and feed you for free. Ah you’re hot. Some of our males want sugar babies, see if we can work something out. What would the woman do? Hope in still. Unfortunately, during prosecution of hot women all over the world, very few countries want to accept hot babes. And that’s how fascists can easily oppress womyn.

2. It’s vague.

Because it’s so broad every body will break it. So they need an excuse why they shouldn’t punish the acts they favor.

As for what “other consideration” is… the courts in California said that if someone “mows your lawn” that can be “other consideration.” – http://www.coyotela.org/getarrestedinfo.html

So it’s not okay to mow lawn for your girlfriend. That will make her a prostitute and both of you can get arrested. It’s okay to offer her marriage? What about if you give her a massage? Should you consult lawyers first?

There is one way to see that the definition is vague. Look at what people think http://sugarbabydaily.com/2011/10/07/high-class-hooke/#more-91

Some people think sugar baby is a prostitution, some people think differently. The law is vague. In fact, Matt Ridley simply points the obvious. Marriage is a form of prostitution. The difference is that government is the pimp and anti prostitution law is simply not enforced against married couple magically.

Look at laws against women trafficking. It’s there to prevent “exploitation”. What is exploitation? Anything. Coca cola companies, exploit me to make money, for example in pretty much the same sense Pepsi does. Government, can simply declare that selling Coca Cola is an exploitation and don’t enforce the same principle against Pepsi. If it’s exploitation, so what?

What is exploitation? If I hire a secretary is that exploitation? Why it’s an exploitation if I hire her to work hard but not an exploitation if I hire her for sex? Exploitation is not an objective word.

If exploitation is defined as taking advantage of others, isn’t that what all we do? When I go to a shop buying a gum, am I not exploiting the shop owners for my own interest of getting the gum? Isn’t the shop exploiting me to get money? So what? Exploitation is simply the basis of all human interaction, whether consensual or not. It’s simply too broad and hence can be used to condemn anything.

Allowing government to prohibit “exploitation” is like giving them blank cheque. It’s so easy to argue that anything is exploitation. What isn’t?

Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs;

Check the law again. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum bla bla bla. Is there anything there that said what exploitation doesn’t include? How do you know, for example, that trafficking a woman for the purpose of getting her a better hair cut is not an exploitation? Why consensual commercial sex is an exploitation and often less consensual marriage is not? What’s the limit? Who knows.

Look at laws against drug. It’s there to prevent “abuse” of drugs. What is abuse of drugs? Anything. Any use can be argued as abuse.

3. It usually comes demonization of the consensual acts or people in negative light. Before nazi slaughtered the jews, they portrayed jews as backstabbing traitorous bastards. Most normal germans did not think they were being rascists. They thought they were getting rid traitors. The same way, most normal people actually believe that all prostitution are non consensual.

Most people do not know that some prostitutes are paid $5500 per hour. In fact, the biggest irony of anti prostitution law is that the very incentive used to define prostitution is the very proof that the acts are indeed consensual. What would you not consensually do for $5500 per hour? Srsly. Killing? Murdering? Robbing? Assassinating Presidents? Fighting Taliban?

What about fucking? You wouldn’t fuck for $5500? Who or what wouldn’t you fuck even if they pay $5500 per hour? Okay quite a lot. But many of those prostitute clients are quite often some handsome rich men. Nothing in the prostitution laws say that the client must be undesirable. Even if the client is Brad Pitt, or Tiger Wood, which would rather pay than get married, it’s still prostitution legally.

Yes there are women forced into prostitution. Just like there are men forced to be programmer, soldiers, etc. So what? Why not aim for those who coerced others?

4. They contain many redundant terms already prohibited by many other laws.

Women trafficking is defined

[...] the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by means of the threat or use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve the consent of a person having control over another person, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs;

Now watch the definition carefully. Using threat, use of force, forms of coercion, abduction, fraud, and deception is already illegal. Why is it prohibited again in this new law? Now look at what they wrote latter. “Giving or receiving of payments or benefits to achieve consent.” What is wrong with that?

The purpose of anti women trafficking law is not to prevent force or fraud. The purpose is to prevent consensual women that do want to move in.

5. They have motives that are too politically incorrect to be stated in front.

The motives are not too hard to figure out.

In case of anti prostitution laws. The motive is to prohibit all sex outside marriage. To be frank, quite often husbands can’t compete with johns, so they prohibit johns. It’s simple. I know extremely beautiful girls that just want a divorce and be mistress instead. They can’t.

Yes women can still have sex outside marriage for free. However, it’s tough. In a sense, offering her to have sex for free doesn’t really give her much choice. If she has kids who would pay for it? Who will pay for her food when she’s pregnant? Government? That’s fascism. Even if she wants you, she can’t choose you unless you pay.

But why would government want to prohibit all sex outside marriage? That’s obvious. They want to be the pimp of all hoes so they can sell those hoes to voters that can’t compete with rich smart johns.

Why feminazis hate women trafficking? Not because of all the fraud and force involved. They simply don’t want competitors. Many feminazis are ugly women. Monogamy protect them from extinction. If they have to compete with influx of hot cheaper babes, they’ll be out of the gene pool in one generation.

Why government prohibits some safe drugs? Many reason. To prevent you from having fun is one thing. Another is so that more dangerous drugs that are paid by lobbyists can sell. If you look at all celebrities that  use drugs, none of them die out of marijuana. All of them are death out of legal drugs that they have to use because the saver marijuana is illegal.

Wealth is a form of power and true wealth is simply power. When government have power to decide terms of your mating, and what kind of fun you can have, they can control you. That means you are their slave. Who wouldn’t want more slaves?

6. Conclusion

At the end whether prostitution should be legal or not, whether drug should be legal or not, and whether consensual women trafficking should be legal or not depends on one question. Do you want to be governed by free market or by government? It’s that simple.

The Greatest Evil is Rejecting Free Market

The Nazi wouldn’t have been able to kill that many jews if jews are free to move somewhere else. In fact, the Nazis wouldn’t have been the Nazi we know if globalization had been the norm a century ago.

The same way women cannot be oppressed in Afghanistan if other countries do not cooperate by preventing those women to get out.

There is a limit on how far a country can oppress any positively contributing people if we let free market rather than government to handle it. The sole purpose why we need government is to protect the market and the market will have taken care of everything else.

The power of free market is often long and mighty enough to help anyone if some do gooders don’t insist on getting in the way often under the pretext of helping the victim that would rather work under free market than receiving aids they don’t need.

Lack of competition gives governments blank checks to oppress the people knowing that those oppressed people can’t get out easily.

Tax rate for workers are higher than tax rate for capital due to simple reason. Capitals can fly, workers cannot.

In fact, real effective capital tax rate is even lower because there are so many tax games you can do if you’re a capital owner. Governments cannot do anything against that. Otherwise people will just move their capital somewhere else. Romney paid 15% in income tax. If you define income to include all actual increased of wealth plus consumption, his real income tax rate would have been 1%.

Free Trade Agreement Support Liberty

As for free trade, it effectively says that you can export to my country if your country do not restrict export to my country. Yes it destroy a country’s sovereignty. Actually it destroys the government’s sovereignty and improve businessmen’s power.

Yes that needs to be on paper. Globalization happens because countries make deals like that.

I think we need to separate commercialize free and political free. In commercialize free, yea we’re like libertarian. You’re free to do anything you want as long as it’s consensual. It’s not natural. Why should you stop at others’ consent? What is your best interest to just stop at others’ consent.

In political free we don’t automatically have a non aggression pact with each other. Every body is free to do whatever it wants. So basically we make deals. I don’t kill you. You don’t kill me. If you are killing us, we’ll be killing you. Both are wrong, but it does take two wrongs to give proper intensive for all sides to do the right thing, namely not killing each other. That’s reality.

Ask Israel if you don’t believe me.

The same way, every country is free to restrict import or do something even far worse. Ron effectively agree to this with his non intervention policy. If China wants to ban all movie import from US. Chinese government can do that. The same way US government will also want to prohibit import of toys from China.

Milton Friedman says, if China want to ban import, let them be. We will import from china all they want to export. We’ll be benefited anyway. Not necessarily. The will of a country often differs from what max out productivity as a whole. In fact, it totally doesn’t make sense to have any country bitching about other countries selling product cheaper to it. But that’s how politic work.

Free trade agreement effectively say, you don’t fuck around with my export, you don’t fuck around with mine.

Without that kind of deals, it’s so easy for any governments to favor some job more than the other by regulating what can be imported and exported. Ah it’s okay for capitals and programmers to come in, but I’ll protect blue collar workers from foreign competition. That provides intensive to stay being blue collar workers rather than learning programming.

So we make deals. Free trade with china. Awesome.

Libertarian ideas that individuals will somehow magically have right is not really practical. Might makes right. Individuals are weak. If we want to curb governments’ right from our backyard, we need something powerful to keep it in check.

Now something else held government power in check. Other governments bound by free trade agreements. That’s how we are getting more free.

No body will vote for a libertarian candidate before globalization. Think about it.

I think Paul must be thinking. I won’t sign free trade agreement. But well I am the president anyway. I’ll just allow free trade and decide on it on monthly bases. C’mon. We know that he won’t be president for long.

Anyway, he seems to be good overall compared to others.

Why rich people make fewer kids?

http://www.freakonomics.com/2011/06/10/the-rich-vs-poor-debate-are-kids-normal-or-inferior-goods/

It says that kids are inferior goods because richer parents buy less kids.

However, definition of inferior goods are goods you buy less as you get richer. Does it presume that the price is constant?

If the price is constant irrelevant of the wealth of the parent, and richer parents tend to have less kids, then yes, kids are inferior goods.

However, the price is not constant.

The price for raising kids are way higher for the poor than for the rich. Rich people simply spend more money for their kids.

Why?

Well, governments’ market distortion. Raising kids usually require marriage or at least some committed relationship. Alimony and child support, for example, are more expensive for the rich and the poor. Governments make reproduction expensive for the rich.

What happen when the cost is constant? Well before 1850, the rich are more fertile than the poor.

How to Create More Jobs With Less Government

Due to lack of death penalty the world is not getting any saver.

Furthermore, lack of commitment toward market mechanism leave poverty and misery every where.

Poverty

The truth is it’s hard to blame even the bad guy because being good just doesn’t pay a lot. C’mon. We’re all sinners. All sin must be prohibited. We prohibit that through laws. So all of us break laws. Laws are there so we broke it. Hence all of us are criminals. So laws really are not on our side quite often.

Why Competence, Talent, and IQ Tests Will Replace Degrees

There is mainly one reason why people want degrees, to have a job. There is mainly one reason why employers want to look at ones’ degree. To guess whether this person can do the job or not.

A degree signals that a person is capable to do a job. Also, most degree granting institution provide courses that makes people capable to do jobs.

As anything in economy, the most efficient ways to accomplish things tend to proliferate. Say I am buying a pencil. Say a pencil producers insist on mixing the lead in the pencil with gold. The process will make their pencils more expensive. To stay in biz, the producers will need to raise the price of that pencil. That will deter consumers from buying pencils.

The point is somebody got to pay for that doodad. If the producers pay that, then the producers will go bankrupt. The consumers pay that, then consumers will choose not to buy and producers will go bankrupt too.

What about if governments pay for the doodad? I’ll come back to that latter. In fact, that’s the main way anything inefficient flourish in our world. Government pays for the doodad or prohibits alternatives.

Is getting a degree efficient?

One thing for sure is it’s expensive. Decent international or national plus schools cost around $5k per year. People need to be in school for 18 years before getting a degree. If you spend $5k for education at degrees for 18 years, and you can turn $1 in your pocket into $1.2 latter, your bank accounts would have been reduced by $640k.

If you invest that $640k at 20% return per year, you would have gotten $128k per year. Indonesian typical entry level salary for programmer is $300 per month or $3600 per year.

Why 18 years? Because government says so. It’s difficult to cut of those years.

Do schools teach their students efficiently?

My physic teacher told me about how government conduct a seminar to train Math teachers. The teachers have to sign that they attend the seminar for 7 days even though the seminars are only 3 days. Those who do not attend or do not sign up will have their teaching license revoked.

The reason is obvious. Whoever makes that seminar will claim a 7 days expenditure while spending only for 3 days.

It costs government a lot of money to make those 7 days seminars. It’s inefficient. Under normal free market mechanism, anything inefficient will not be done. Why pay 7 days if the seminar is only 3 days? Also why attend seminars you do not want to attend? But because governments pay for the seminar, inefficiency flourish.

Is this happening only on corrupt countries like Indonesia? Not really.

I still remember when I study programming in UW Madison. I was so afraid of getting a bad grade that I did my homework early. Because I did my homework early, I had to learn the material to make the program much earlier than the lecture.

So why the hell should I attend the lecture if without lectures I could already understand the material, as shown by the fact that my homework was done?

If we divide schools’ teaching component, it’s pretty obvious that lectures are the most expensive part. Yet many people learn from books by themselves efficiently. People that can do that are actually better workers than those who cannot, and hence employers would prefer to hire them. I know. As an employer that’s what I would do.

Many parents put their kids to study oversea to avoid indoctrination. However, normal schools always have indoctrination courses because governments’ say so. So here, quite obviously this type of system is not going to prevail under free market. Recently there are cracks in the system.

An institution can teach students without mandatory indoctrination content if they do not claim to be an educational institution. Great. I’ll put my student there then. Also even Indonesian government allows people getting high school degrees by taking tests. Unfortunately that’s only open for students above 18 years old. But still it’ll be a great alternatives many would try instead.

Not claiming to be an educational institution means the student do not get a degree that Indonesian government acknowledge. Big deal. We can buy degrees. Some employers hire based on IQ anyway.

And what about the fact that degrees signals capability? Well, for some jobs, like programming, a 10 years old high IQ is can be more productive than a low IQ graduate students. A lot of what contemporary jobs need are common mathematical sense. And IQ signals that more than degrees.

And what’s the cost of a reliable IQ tests? Mensa provided that for a mere Rp. 100k. It’s $10.

Now, if people can study programming by themselves, and then solve IQ tests or google jam, then they would get MOST of what schools offer at much cheaper price.

Not doing that would be like sprinkling gold in our pencil leads. Somebody will have to pay the extra costs.

It could be the parents, which mean such parents will go bankrupt and produce less kids. It could be the employers that will indirectly pay for the extra costs. But they’re less elastic. Then there is another circumstances. Government pays for the extra costs.

However, under globalization, democracy, and freedom of speech, the people realize more and more that government’s expenditure sucks. No longer any countries can invest so much money on inefficiencies. Too much money on education means higher tax that will drive business away.

In addition, jobs nowadays are different than jobs before. Information change rapidly. To think that you can go to school, learn stuff, and be educated for the whole of your life is just insane. People look at capability to learn new tricks more than tricks you already know. That’s where IQ tests trample degrees once more.

More and more countries are letting free market govern their education. Those who don’t will keep losing their best and brightest overseas turning their countries into hell holes.

The cheap mensa test is a no brainer for anyone needing job as programmers, at least for the smart.
