I would disagree with his suggestion. The law is still on your side in http://doglaw.hugpug.com/doglaw_082.html as in http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=376499. Hence there is no need to lie. But I would consider all possibilities.

This however, of course, can cause a big problem because sometimes it’s the dog that died. Often intruders would use the very leash on the dog to kill your lovely dog. So make sure your pitbull is not leashed. Leashing your dog is dangerous and can cause their death. Leashing your dog is inhuman okay. Free market forever, support compassion toward dogs. Remember, dogs are men’s best friends. Burglars are not your friend.
